Water cooling tower destined for Cascavel/PR
Industrial water cooling tower destined for Cascavel/PR.
An industrial cooling tower is equipment used to dissipate heat generated in industrial processes, central air conditioning systems, and power generation plants. Its function is to cool the water that has been heated during the process, returning it at a lower temperature so that it can be reused in the system.
How it works:
Hot water inlet → water that has absorbed heat from the process (machines, heat exchangers, condensers, etc.) is pumped into the tower.
Distribution → this water is sprayed onto the packing (filling/plastic or wood), which increases the contact area between water and air.
Water-air contact → fans force air through the interior of the tower. In this contact, some of the water evaporates, removing heat from the rest.
Cooled water outlet → the now cold water is collected in the lower reservoir (cold basin) and returns to the industrial process. Hot and humid air outlet → air heated by evaporation is released into the atmosphere.
Main components:
Structure (fiberglass, steel, or concrete)
Fill – increases the water/air contact area
Dripple eliminators – reduce water loss by drift
Fans – can be axial or centrifugal
Cold basin – collects cooled water
Water distribution system – spray nozzles or troughs
Types of towers:
Natural draft: utilizes the difference in density between hot and cold air (tall chimneys).
Mechanical draft (induced or forced): uses fans to move the air.
Open circuit: water comes into direct contact with the air.
Closed circuit: water circulates in coils, without direct contact with the air.
Common Applications:
Chemical, petrochemical, pulp and paper, metallurgical, and steel industries
Thermal power plants
Large-scale air conditioning systems (hospitals, shopping malls, industries)
Benefits:
Water reuse → savings and sustainability
Thermal efficiency → maintains processes within the ideal temperature range
Longer equipment lifespan → prevents overheating of machines and heat exchangers
Client: Food Industry.
Location: Cascavel/PR.
